Believe it or not, the best way to understand a topic is by doing it rather than by teaching it. That is the benchmark in understanding something so you can teach others to understand it. With my passive income blog start-up steps I wrote out in eleven posts, I got the chance to revisit what it was like to be a new blogger.
Why I Wrote The Blog Start-Up Steps
I was lost in the beginning. I had experience running servers and creating niche sites for revenue generation. Still, I stepped out of that line of work for a long time.
How Do I Create A Side Hustle Blog (In 10 Steps)?
Getting back into niche site creations, much has changed. Instead of using software like DreamWeaver on rented servers, I could create custom sites and blogs with WordPress utilizing simple hosting accounts and adding features with plugins.
It’s easier today to create a passive income website through blogging than many years ago.
However, my first blogs failed. Why?
How I Failed At Creating Successful Blog Sites
Information overload.
So much ‘free’ information on YouTube and Facebook Groups is overwhelming.
So much information is shared by people claiming to make a ton of money through no work using blogs.
First, this information needs to be corrected. I have yet to find how to get rich with no work by blogging and the amount of effort necessary to create a successful blog and generate income.
Second, there is more work, often just planning, to create evergreen blog content, and it becomes a passive income source of money.
Third, successful people often teach from a position of being successful, assuming their audience is already experienced and just on the cusp of becoming successful. That is not the case. Often people like myself need instructions in simple steps and using small words.
Fourth, information is often misinterpreted. There might be good steps and good information. Still, with so many sources, it’s like listening to a conversation with everyone talking to you at once. Who do you focus on? Are the steps in order you heard, or were the steps out of order?
More Details, My First Passive Income Blog Failure.
I wanted to share information about a topic that gets us all stressed. Finances.
Worse yet, the discussion about Finances is often difficult for people to talk about, even with family members. Or like me, I was surrounded by people who needed to gain experience with being successful with their finances.
I also don’t come from a strong background in finances, being a welfare child with a very dark upbringing—a topic for another time or blog.
So, after becoming a single parent with a single income recently, I was scared. Add in. It wasn’t just my plan to survive but to thrive. I had to re-learn how to keep a positive outlook and not let the ink go dry on my resume, and through side hustles; I could thrive.
I wanted to share the ‘secret’ with others and created a blog about being a single parent and finances. It bombed.
I niched down too far. Single parents have other things on their minds and often can’t see past the next paycheck. I was there, I know. Looking back, I wish someone would share some way to grow hope and set me in a direction so if I fail. I fail forward.
Well, there were few single-parent readers interested.
Also, I needed a process for creating a blog, and I needed a natural process for growing it. I did everything at once since all the information online came at me at once.
With Blogging, It’s OK To Quit.
Not only did I try to target the wrong audience for my blog, and I needed a methodology to start and grow my blog, but I also picked a highly competitive niche, finances.
So I killed my first blog, walked away, and let the domain expire. One good thing about choosing BlueHost as a provider is that it included a free domain, and my out-of-pocket costs were lower for a dead-end blog.
Restarting A Blog From Experience.
I began the process of blogging again by trying to figure out what went wrong. Not only did my first blog fail, but it was also so chaotic that I needed help figuring out what worked and what didn’t.
Broke down the steps into tiny steps and started filtering what information I was spending time on to learn about blogging.
The greatest lesson I learned was actually through blogging. So my first advice is to get up and ready right away and start blogging to gain experience.
After I restarted blogging, I later found a mentor program, a single one to focus on. I would dump it for another mentor program if it didn’t work.
I was lucky to get one that met my needs and did little to help direct me. However, I did a better job of filtering out the junk information still running around my head from other sources of blogging information.
Should I Buy A Blogging Teaching Program?
I mentioned how paying for a blogging mentor program helped me, but I have yet to recommend it initially.
Getting started in blogging is pretty straightforward if we get away from everyone trying to sell you something. Also, blogging isn’t for everyone, so why throw money at something you hate?
This is why I took the time to write out the ten steps to creating a blog for passive income generation. Now you can use the same steps in starting a blog, but I wanted to tweak it so that It can become the foundation of a source of income for the creator.
If you follow the simple ten steps, you can get your blog up and running quickly.
Once the blog runs, you can figure out if you like writing content. Later you can buy content, but best you learn what it’s like to write targeted content for your blog before you pay someone else to do it for you.
Sure, your hired writers might be focused on writing to satisfy your needs, but your writing helps you stay focused on meeting the needs of your readers. With this knowledge, you can become a great editor for any content you buy.
So, What Is The First Step In Starting A Blog?
Read my steps. Then follow the steps one by one, sequentially, to get started in blogging. By the time you read the end of the first ten steps, you will have gained so much experience at blogging compared to constantly thinking about it.
How Do I Start A Blog With No Experience?
By doing. Again, take your time and do it. Think about each blogging step and do it.
Experience is its teacher.
Wait, the First 10 Steps?
Are There More Steps In Blogging For Income?
Yes. The first ten steps I covered get you up and running. After that, you can keep repeating step 10( How Do I Create A Side Hustle Blog (In 10 Steps)? ) till you are ready to expand.
When I mean expand, I picked a blogging mentoring team that best aligns with my blogging goals. Many teachers on YouTube share their ideas and methodology, and here is a list of some:
The List goes on and on, but this is a good place to start.
After you figure out how you want to blog and how you want to monetize your site (affiliate links, display ads, subscription services, etc.), you can join up with one of the many systems and maximize your returns.
Then there, you will find there are steps 11, 12, 13, etc…
Some people have let their first blog sit after getting it up to speed and working on their second and third blogs. The older blogs become passive income generators while they work on other projects.
But before this happens, you have to start blogging. And why I created my original post(URL).
Your Feedback.
I am still waiting to make a million dollars a year, but I am making money. Money continues to come when I’m busy with my day job, so my blogs can become passive. The income is a proof of concept rather than a source of retirement.
Meaning I’m constantly learning and growing. GrowingPIGs.com isn’t my first blog, but it’s more associated with why I got into blogging, creating and growing passive income generators.
If you are a new or experienced blogger, making money or not, and have feedback or questions, please let’s all grow together and comment below.
