Odd Lots Definition? – FAQ

An old term you might hear when investing in stocks is “Odd Lots.” What is the Odd Lots definition?  Well here we go:

Basket of Assets, Money, Bonds, Stocks, ETF, not in blocks of 100. An Odd Lots Definition.

Odd Lots Definition

The definition of odd lots is a unit of stocks, not divisible by 100(Round Lots are units of 100 shares).

Previously, if you bought stocks NOT in 100 share units(Round Lots Definition), you were charged an extra fee. Or, some stock brokerage houses wouldn’t even sell you non-100 unit stocks. It was Round Lots only, or nothing.

As stock brokerage houses became more retail investor friendly, it became easier to buy non-Round Lots and Odd Lots of stocks(<100 shares or lots of stocks not easily divisible by 100) of stocks.

Later, the stock brokers became much more retail investor-friendly by buying fractional shares of stocks(<1 share).
