Now they say hindsight is 20/20 so let me give you the view I had using Bluehost for my blogging hosting needs. Before I answer is Bluehost good for blogging, let me give you a little background. Hoping this will all come together if you are interested in building a blog as one of your passive income generators.
Is Bluehost Good Answer, For 2 Blogger Types:
For the brand-new, no blogging or niche site creation experience:
Yes, Bluehost is good for blogging, and its website service will suffice. However, if you are clueless, you might not like Bluehost’s customer service.
For experienced blog or niche site authors, who can get a website up fast and growing traffic quickly:
No, Bluehost might not be good for your blog hosting needs. The Bluehost customer service might be ok since you might seek out Bluehost’s help only for big trouble ticket items.
I will go more into detail about this Bluehost review by covering my background and you can tell if you are a new blogger or an experienced blogger and how Bluehost fits into your hosting services, or not.
My Pre-Review, My Bluehost Hosting History:
Years ago I created niche sites by renting out a whole server buying domains and building webpages. It was ‘not’ blogging since each sight was built to a specific set of search terms with very specific research.
I stopped, some search engine updates resulted in no traffic, so left the niche site building.
A few years ago, I wanted to focus more on broader topics(my interests) and create single sites that contained a wealth of information. This site is one, and my new motorcycle hobby site isn’t another.
Rather than create sites from scratch, using software tools like DreamWeaver and MySQL interface software (yes I used such things) I went the WordPress route.
WordPress is best known for its blogging(journaling) format but can be used to create very custom websites. Which is why I went with it.
When I looked up cheap blog hosting companies, Bluehost was highly recommended. Just recommended, not really why other than cost. So wanting to go with a cheap blog hosting service, I went with Bluehost.
I used the Bluehost free first-year Domain registration offer and purchased about three-year hosting contract. All at one low price, that worked out incredibly cheap on a per-month calculation.
Now you see I was a new blogger and Bluehost user. Now that I’ve acquired experience as a blogger and expanded my knowledge of blog hosting, I’ll explain my Bluehost review in more in-depth.
Why Bluehost is Good For Blogging, For New Bloggers.
When you start out blogging, you are a noob, no other way to simply do it.
You will make mistakes either not building traffic streams well, or too well and possibly look like a spammer. Resulting in poor search engine traffic.
You will either under-optimize your pages for search engines or optimize for search engines, again looking like a spammer. Resulting in poor search engine traffic.
The point is, that no one is initially reading your blog. You are growing content, writing posts, and learning how to gain traffic. Because of this, paying for a high-priced website hosting service is a waste of money.
So BlueHost is a good blog hosting service because it’s cheap and new blogs have like no traffic and place no demand on the servers.
Extra: Bluehost Customer Service Is Bad (New Bloggers).
As a new blogger, I asked many questions, very specific to the site I was building, and found customer service was very familiar with their hosting service, but not with my needs.
I had problems with integrating my blog with Ezoic and was told to go back to Ezoic for help when I recall it was a web host server problem.
So if you need a lot of help, my experience is that BlueHost customer service is there, but might not get the hand-holding you need as a new blogger.
Why Bluehost Is Not Good For Blogging For Experience Bloggers.
If you can grow a site fast, with compounding traffic, you might not like Bluehost.
I had a few times my site was down and as a new blogger it didn’t make a difference. Might have missed a visitor or two. Not saying there were many times my website wasn’t accessible, but the few times it was nerve-racking.
It would have been worse for a high-traffic blog, missing visitor after visitor during these periods.
So my experience, I had a few times when my site was down, and had no control over it.
IMHO, based on experience, there are better blog hosting services for things like reliability and site speed.
Extra: Bluehost Customer Service Is Good (Experienced Bloggers).
Simply put, the customer service people I’ve dealt with are very focused on Bluehost services. Ultimately very helpful with only Bluehost services.
To be fair I can’t expect Bluehost customer service to be an expert at everything, but as I got better at working out issues with plug-ins, and monetization I only had to bother Bluehost with their services and they were VERY helpful.
So if you are experienced and run into a wall about something related to Bluehost’s services, customer service did a great job helping me.
Would I Recommend Bluehost For New Bloggers?
Yes, I believe Bluehost will do a great job at being there, providing a website for you to grow content while saving you a lot of money on hosting fees.
Would I Recommend Bluehost For Experienced Bloggers?
No. Odds are if you are experienced, your Bluehost days are behind you like mine are.
To Finalize This, What I Would Do If I Was A New Blogger.
- Sign up with Bluehost with one of their long hosting contracts, 3 years is what I used.
- Build my site’s content, tweak my On-page and off-page SEO, and grow traffic. When traffic increases to the point where site speed and reliability are a concern for me (FYI, it might never be a concern, I’m only sharing my opinions), move to a larger host.
Would I Take The Free One Year Domain Registration?
Yes, take it and before the year is up, move it to a cheaper domain registrar, or just keep it with Bluehost. Prices are OK, not great, but OK.
Is Bluehost Any Good For Me?
I am hosting my blogs elsewhere. Moving them off Bluehost was easy.
I still have domains with Bluehost, never got around to or felt the immediate need to move the domain names to another registrar. So I still use Bluehost, and occasionally their customer service.
Does Bluehost Have Good Customer Service?
Again, their customer service is very knowledgeable about their services, so I am satisfied with my most recent experiences.
Do You Use Bluehost?
If you use Bluehost, tell me what you think about their services and your experiences. Others can benefit from lessons learned from experienced bloggers.
