This can be a simple question with a simple answer, but it gets more complicated as I continue researching this. I’m turning what should be a simple side hustle blog into a significant activity.
How I Thought I Could Create A Side Hustle Blog:
- Create Blog.
- Write in Blog.
- Add Affiliate Links.
- Retire Early.
This is far from the truth.
It’s more complex, but as I learn more makes sense. Like walking, the idea of how the body coordinates muscles, using visual and balance cues, to remain upright and navigate obstacles is VERY complex. Still, once you do it, it’s easy.
That is what I’m going through with the blog. I didn’t know what software to use, and it came down to a stand-alone domain using WordPress.
Something as simple as knowing what software to use for blogging is essential. Services and plug-ins revolve around the type of blog software you use, and I will go into them further.
Based On Experience, How Do I Create A Side Hustle Blog?
This list is not a cookie-cutter list of steps needed to get into blogging and make money, but a very high-level view of the process.
I will go into more detail and include links as I create more posts later.
1.- Determine If Blogging Is What You Want To Do.
I decided to do a side hustle( Side Hustles For Feeding Passive Income Generators(PIGs)? ) based on some conditions that allowed me to both live my family life, keep my full-time job, and have a lot of growth and reward potential.
From the list( 11 Great Side Hustle Ideas To Feed Passive Income Generators(PIGs). ) of side hustles that met my conditions, I decided on blogging ( My Side Hustle Decision: Blogging ).
How do you envision this blog will make money? Ads? Affiliate products? Teaching Services? Etc?
Plan now how to monetize your blog for later.
Step 1 Post: Blogging For Passive Income, Step 1: Do You Want To?
2.- Need A Blogging Niche, A Blog Topic.
What are you going to blog about? This niche idea is something you already know or something you want to learn about, and document your learning experience to help others along the way.

3.- You Need To Decide On A Blog Domain Name.
This is the WWW. [WhatIsYourBlogDomain] .Com (or what ever you decide) people type in their browser to get to your site.
Believe it or not, deciding on a blog domain name is a big decision. You can change a blog’s topic midstream, but people usually stick with domain names.
Coming up with blog domain name ideas can be rough. So be sure you have a good handle on your blog site niche and expand outward.
Step 3 Post: Blogging For Passive Income, Step 3: A Blog Domain Name.
4.- You Need To Register Your Blog’s Domain Name.
This step needs to be clarified since some hosting services include free domain registration within the first year of hosting.
Do your research and find where you can register your domains at learn about the prices and terms. Then using this information, see if registering with a possible hosting company saves you money or not.

5.- Find A Blog Hosting Service (Website Host).
There are many blog services. What you need is a website host that offers blog services like WordPress.
Also, it might be an advantage to find out if they offer discounted or free domain registration. Take your time with today’s price, but look at the cost over the long term.

6.- Create and Customize Your Blog Software Settings.
Create your blog by adding a name, contact information, author accounts, contact page, etc.

7.- Create Your Blog Content.
Why are people there? What are you trying to do?
This gets complex and cannot be covered here, but how are you getting people to your site? Search Engines? Ad service? Etc?

8.- Monetize.
This one word almost undermines how complex this step can be.
An easy way is to sign up for affiliate links and paste them into your posts.
More involved is ad network setup.
Even more complex is where you get involved more with your blog/brand, reaching out for referral deals, creating digital products, or even creating online courses and mentoring services.

9.- Promote Your Blog
A lot of this step has to do with step #1. What is your goal? How did you envision going forward would drive traffic to your blog, and how were people going to give you their money, and what for?

10.- Analyze, Track Results, Continuously Improve Your Blog.
This step is like the proverbial ‘rinse and repeat’ of blogging. Do something, review results, do more of something(tweak, create, delete), and review results repeatedly.
What works today will not work tomorrow; what didn’t work often didn’t work YET!
So fine-tuning your blog will involve tools, knowledge, and, more importantly, patience.

This was a high-level view of how I learned to create and make money from a blog.

I am recapping much that has already happened when my online side hustle adventure. The blog was my first step to getting an online presence, and trying to lay out here what work I did leading up to the blog and after monetizing it.
Much of what is said here is a 20/20 vision due to hindsight. I will list my mistakes and help show you where I made the right decisions so you can learn from me.
As we advance, I plan to break down each of these steps to further expand on the complexities of getting my blog to make its first dollar.
