11 Great Side Hustle Ideas To Feed Passive Income Generators(PIGs).

My goal was to find great side hustle ideas to feed the growth of my passive income generators (PIGs), which if you still need to learn by now, are mostly stock dividend portfolios.

Quick Note About This Side Hustle Recap:

Most of this side hustle decision-making process took place in 2021 after I decided I wanted to retire early from my current occupation but couldn’t figure out how to do so without killing myself with overtime.

I wanted additional sources of income to grow and feed my passive income generators(PIGs), so I could give up chasing a paycheck.

So will be covering how I got to this point today, March 2023, from the end of 2021.

Side Hustle Goals To Feed My Passive Income Generators.

Caring for your PIG.

I want to get extra money to invest and move toward retiring earlier. Although my goal is simple, fund my PIGs to grow them faster, like many, I have a complex life. I’m a family man, and I work full-time. I work in a field that often requires me to spend time outside to maintain my skills. I also volunteer with a local youth group.

Geezz…… and I figured I have extra time? One of the criteria was to be able to pick up and put down at any time while working on a side income. Many of us have 15 mins here, 10 mins there, can wake up 30 mins early to get extra work done, etc.

So, let’s move on. This is the list of great side hustle ideas that came up after several searches:

  • Earn Affiliate Commissions
  • Write A Book
  • Sell An Online Course
  • Sell A digital product(stock photos, printables)
  • Create print-on-demand products(shirts & merchandise)
  • YouTube Channel Ad money
  • Blogging(Ads and Memberships)
  • Sell an online product
  • Drop-ship
  • Rent Out Car
  • Rent House/Room Airbnb

Now the list is the list, 11 items. But can we mix and match? I say yes.

I wanted to share my ideas if that was going through your head. There is a lot of blending of these ideas while still meeting some of my criteria as a working parent with kids.

11 Great Side Hustle Ideas

Let’s Quickly Look Over These Side Hustles, One By One.

1.- Earn Affiliate Commissions.

Great Side Hustle Ideas include affiliate marketing, rain in money selling other people's products and services.
What I think about with affiliate marketing, but it’s a little harder than this image. 😀

This is vague on how, but a goal. Many-many years ago, I had a couple of small websites( about a dozen pages) with links to products I used.

When someone clicked on a link and purchased that item, I got a percentage of the sale. Initially, I understood this, pre-internet days, as finder fees for new customers, and today they are called Affiliate Commissions.

Again, this is more of a goal without stating how to get there, so this suggestion needs to be stronger.

Like asking, How Do I Get Rich? With the response being, Get Money.

Too Vague.

I will discuss this later, but this solution is best combined with one of the additional side hustle ideas.

2.- Write A Book.

Old-school type writer.
I learned a type writer, writing today is much easier with AI and Word Processing Software.

This is a good idea; people have been paid directly for years.

Indirectly from authoring a book, writers are often invited to talk shows and entertainment events.

Writing a book sounds great, especially as a parent, and I pick it up and put it down at any time.

Just one problem, because of a lack of public school resources, the school system graduated this student while being labeled “functionally illiterate.” I could be a better writer.

Can I write? Sure, I have completed four college degrees, and writing was involved, but I used tools like workshops and now Grammarly to get passing scores on papers. I do much better in classes that is exam based on.

Point is….. Sorry….. not a writer for anything the level of a book. I would need much help, and wanting little to no start-up costs, there are better solutions than this.

3.- Sell An Online Course.

Online Ecommerce Sales

This might be a great idea if I had something to teach that people wanted to learn and knew how to sell an online course.

However, just starting this new adventure, and after becoming an ‘expert,’ I could teach others how to follow me.

The problem is I have to be successful first. Or I’m a fraud. I’m sure this has kept others from selling courses as a side hustle.

I’ll skip this for now.

4.- Sell A Digital Product(Stock Photos, Printables).

Online digital services.

I like this idea. I’ve seen it on websites like Etsy.

People create day planners, or worksheets, even posting stock photos for download. It meets much of the criteria I wanted, low to no start-up costs, can be picked up and put down at any time, and the potential is there with much of the reward being returned for the effort I put in.

Sounds great, just again, it could be more creative and artistic.

I will revisit this side hustle later after I get the ball rolling.

5.- Create Print-On-Demand Products(Shirts & Merchandise).

Old style printing press, time consuming.
Advances in printing allows for on-demand services, allowing you to get artwork out faster.

We see these all the time with our YouTube creators. They are pitching ‘merch’ all the time.

T-shirts, sweatshirts, mouse pads, mugs, etc. Many small creators use a print-on-demand service, so they only have a few upfront costs with an inventory.

I was looking at Amazon‘s print-on-demand services, and if I was good with creating t-shirts, it might be one of my first start-up side hustles here. However, again, not artistic.

Next, but I will revisit this, I’m sure.

6.-YouTube Channel Ad Money.

Become a Internet Influencer.
Making YouTube Videos has been fun, and there is a business model to make money doing so.

This is an excellent idea!!

I’ve witnessed small creators grow their sites to impressive levels, where they had to create tons of money from ad revenue.

This side hustle idea can be a great start-up for little money, guessing a cellphone, personality, and creativity.

I am heavily considering this; this will be one of my top options for starting a YouTube channel side hustle. The potential is enormous.

A YouTube Channel as a side hustle will be a top pick for me, might even become a passive income generator too.

7.- Blogging(Ads and Memberships).

Frustrated Blogger.
Blogging can be stressful, I know, but learn from my mistakes and succeed sooner.

The nice thing about this search result does not only does it explain what side hustle to make but how this side hustle will make money. Via Ads and Memberships.

I’ve looked into this in the past. It seems easy to create information online, but finding a way to streamline it, get viewers, and then turn it marketable will be challenging.

Not because making money with blogging is impossible, but because this is the first time I’ve done something like this. Current knowledge of ads, search engine optimization, and networking with others is essential. Or at least I believe it is.

Creating video content on YouTube is less exciting than this, but with services like Grammarly, I can have a virtual editor checking my content, and no need to put my face on the camera for blogging.

Blogging has extreme potential for growth, but I don’t want to reinvent the wheel; going to have to look at if there are peer groups to get involved in and bound ideas around.

Blogging, as you can tell by reading this blog, was at the front of the line of side hustles I considered.

8.- Sell An Online Product.

Selling an physical product online.
Principles are similar with selling a physical product vs a digital product. Delivery is different.

Now since the search results came up with sell and online product and printables, the results were separate since it was about selling a tangle online product.

Like selling crafts, pottery, etc., or reselling products on eBay or via Amazon’s FBA program.

We all have been down the Ebay route now and then, buying Beanie Babies and reselling them. Buying tools, using once, and then reselling them.

It’s time-consuming, and after all the ‘fees’ from eBay and Paypal, it needed more money left over.

Even sometimes barely breaking even and satisfied someone got to enjoy what I sold rather than sitting around my house collecting dust.

Now the Amazon FBA program is interesting, the retail arbitrage version. With the YouTube Videos I’ve watched, it’s like a scavenger hunt, and more importantly, my daughter could be involved.

My daughter is up with the current trends, being a full-fledged teenager, and some products are focused toward her age group. Even with the products ending up on the clearance shelves to recover floor space, some items are still in demand.

A small operator like myself could move enough items in their spare time, and Amazon does the heavy lifting of marketing, selling, and dealing with returns. But there is one hang-up I have.

Sales Tax! I want to avoid having to register, keep track of where Amazon sends the product, and fill out forms. I know Amazon collects and remits sales taxes for the sellers, but some state still wants all the documentation and returns sent by the seller, me.

I’ll skip this for now, and I’ll revisit this once I hire a small staff, possibly my children.

9.- Drop-shipping.

Catapult, my image of drop shipping.
How Imagine Drop-Shipping. You get the orders and someone launches the products for you.

I covered many of my problems with drop shipping in #8, so this is a streamlined version of Amazon FBA I can figure out. Unless I want to start up with more cash and time, I’ll pass on the drop-shipping side hustle for now.

Again, if I grow sources of income and want to expand on more side hustles, I might revisit this idea too.

I’m looking for a simple single side hustle with much potential and minimal start-up costs.

Skipping Drop-ship model for side hustling, for now.

10.- Rent Out Car.

Car and Car Keys.

When I saw this suggestion, I was trying to figure out what it meant, lets strangers borrow my car for a fee? Wouldn’t that put me at significant risk if they got into an accident?

Well, renting your car directly is an option for some side hustles, but not interested.

However, I saw the potential for this side hustle; it’s not directly renting the car to strangers; it’s renting the service the car does for strangers.

A car is designed to deliver things, people, and items.

Uber and Lyft are a couple of side hustle items where you rent the services of your car and yourself to strangers and can make some side money.

Also, DoorDash and Uber Eats are ways to rent the services of your car and deliver food to people for a fee.

It’s a good idea, and in a pinch, I might try this, but truthfully, only if I can’t figure out something else and I’m bored where I want to chat with strangers.

So renting out my car, for now, is a pass.

But the good news is, I have friends that both do Uber/Lyft and DoorDash/Pizza delivery for side cash. It’s their side hustle, and they might spend some time getting more information to share here.

Might think about doing food deliveries as a summer job to get out of the house, or when weather is nice and kids are in school.

11.- Rent House/Room Airbnb.

Small house.
The house might not be much, but location is key with rentals.

How many have seen the same commercials on Youtube, Instagram, and FB feeds?

If you download this one app, you can make money. Then you find out it’s an Airbnb app where you can rent out unused rooms.

I have friends in the rental business, primarily single houses, and the stories I hear are good. The potential of dealing with the three Ts (toilets, tenants, and trash) is challenging.

Plus having to drop everything to fix any emergencies doesn’t allow me to pick and put down this side hustle whenever I want to. With time, and if I wasn’t so dependent on being available for my job and family, I might be interested in becoming more of a landlord for rentals.

Just not now. The start-up cost can be a challenge if I can’t get loans and secure a revenue stream immediately to pay those loans.

But again, this has much potential, and I might revisit it later.

My Side Hustle Conclusion.

If you made it this far, you should have figured out which side hustles I decided to go with and how I integrated it with my desire to grow more passive income generators(PIGs).

It’s Blogging. After this one, I will detail a post to explain better why I went with blogging as a side hustle, the earning potential, and my goal to grow the blogging idea into something that might not just be like a passive income generator but become a passive income generator.
